Responsible Manufacturing is Not Optional
The flooring industry consumes significant raw materials, energy, and water. At Mannington, we believe manufacturers have an obligation — not just an opportunity — to minimize that impact. Since 2018, we've been operating under a structured Environmental Management System aligned with ISO 14001, with publicly stated reduction targets and annual third-party audits.
Our 2024 Sustainability Report documents progress across five pillars: materials, energy, water, waste, and community. Every number in this report was verified by an independent environmental auditor.
Our Environmental Framework
Responsible Materials
We source PVC compounds from suppliers who participate in the VinylPlus sustainability program. Phthalate-free plasticizers across all residential LVT since 2021. Post-consumer recycled content in select commercial collections validated by third-party mass-balance accounting.
Renewable Energy
34% of manufacturing energy now sourced from renewable contracts (wind, solar). Our Salem, NJ facility completed a 2.4 MW rooftop solar installation in 2023, covering 18% of that plant's annual consumption. Target: 50% renewable by 2027.
Water Stewardship
Water consumption per square meter of flooring produced reduced by 28% between 2019 and 2024 through closed-loop cooling system upgrades. Zero process water discharge to municipal systems at our Georgia and West Virginia plants.
Waste Reduction & Circularity
68% of manufacturing waste diverted from landfill in 2024. Production trim and reject material reprocessed into raw compound feedstock — a closed-loop system operational at all four facilities. Legacy vinyl flooring take-back available through our ReFloor program in 22 U.S. states.
Community Investment
Our four plant communities — Salem NJ, Calhoun GA, Lexington NC, and Mannington WV — receive over $2.1M annually in local workforce development, school grants, and environmental restoration projects. 78% of employees live within 25 miles of their manufacturing facility.
Transparent Reporting
Annual sustainability report published in Q1, covering the prior year. Includes independently verified data on energy intensity, carbon intensity, waste diversion, and water usage. We report setbacks as well as achievements — because credibility requires honesty about where we've fallen short.
